Motorsport is rising from the ashes of the coronavirus pandemic with its very own social network. Whilst 2020 was a year of lockdowns and layoffs, 2021 is emerging as a year of changes and innovations. For the first time Motorsport will have a dedicated social network, called FastLap, which aims to become a benchmark for car and kart drivers and bike riders alike.

It will cater to everyone who loves Motorsport, from the professional ranks to amateurs, to the enthusiasts and to all the fans. The platform allows the users to share emotions, photos and videos with the community, as well as their lap times and telemetry. Users will also be able to book track days, purchase technical material and merchandising. The project was instigated and nurtured by Jonathan Serrapica, an Italian-Swiss computer scientist with a passion for motorcycles and a wealth of experience racing in Asia, notably ARRC (Asia Road Racing Championship) and MSBK (Malaysian Superbike). Jonathon has lived and settled in Singapore for many years.

The idea of creating FastLap came in 2015 – says Jonathan Serrapica – when my father had a bad accident during a free practice session at Sepang. I realized we needed some system to increase safety. Through FastLap, when someone books the day, the event organizer knows in advance if it is the first time that he goes to that particular circuit, how fast he is and which vehicle he will be using. In this way, Organizers can create homogeneous groups, and everything becomes safer. The sessions on track can be purchased online with complete confidence and, thanks to a QR Code system, the registration and the access to the circuit is streamlined, without queues or gatherings – useful especially in a particular period such as the current one. Organizers and brands can create their events, initiatives and sell what they want“.

FastLap is a full-blown social network (registration is free): it is possible to share likes, photos, and other content, mark the favorite tracks and create a garage with the vehicles owned. You can then upload the telemetry data and the lap times captured by different devices (all the most famous GPS lap timers, mobile applications, and action cameras such as the GoPro) and complete them by adding information on tyres and settings used as well as weather conditions. It is then possible to see the lines, braking, and acceleration points directly on the track, thanks to the Google Maps interface (also in 3D). Everyone can have fun analyzing other riders’ laps, watching where they brake, learning from others, and even getting to know or getting in touch with other fans.

Currently, there are already over 170 international tracks with photos and related characteristics. Within a couple of months, the number will be over 500, and the management team can always be contacted to expedite the inclusion of any missing circuit.

“FastLap is a platform that operates at a global level – something that Jonathan reiterates frequently – and it’s multilingual. English and Italian translations are already available, and Spanish, Portuguese, and German will go live shortly. We strive to make FastLap the point of reference for all Motorsport: from Riders & Drivers to Circuits & Track Owners, to all the businesses in this industry. As of this moment we have a few Professional riders and drivers from Asia and Europe registered, and we are already covering cars, motorbikes, karts, and minibikes. Speaking about the latter, we are working on FastLap Junior for the younger users (ensuring maximum protection for their privacy and online safety). We strive to establish a global coverage of all the Motorsport specialties running on permanent closed circuits. We hope that FastLap will become a reference point also for Team Managers and Talent Scouts looking to analyze the performances of new talent in just a few clicks.” For more information, please visit the official website https://www.fastlap.com or their social channels on Faceb
