Anthony West’s life is no longer the same. The golden days for the Australian driver, of undoubted talent, disqualified in 2018 following the Misano stage of the World SS600. The same pilot was suspended from September 14 two years ago. From that moment everything has changed. After the disqualification West had even thought of suicide.

West then participated in the first races of the Brazilian Championship but after some game over races. We haven’t heard for a few months then we asked ourselves “what happened to it”? We know all about his past but his present? His current situation leaves us puzzled.

My father hates me, he spent a lot of money on me unnecessarily. We believed in all the lies you read too. I have received many promises from teams and sponsors, but no one has ever reciprocated. So I never managed to repay all my father’s sacrifices. I was kicked out of the house and now I’m living in my car and with some friends. “

West is engaged in the vain attempt to build a new life in the land of the kangaroos, cut down by the fires that have destroyed vast hectares of land. After more than twenty years spent competing around the world, being on a blank sheet is not easy. And West knows it well, because the guides aboard the American trucks were worthless in Europe to find a permanent job in Australia.

“I am trying to find a job, but it is very difficult. They don’t give you a job just because your name is Anthony West. I have applied for many other types of unsuccessful jobs at the moment. Maybe I will have some possibility of working as a coach on tracks not managed by the FIM. Fortunately my mom and friends are helping me with food and money until I find one”.

A real ‘annus horribilis’ for the Maryborough pilot, or rather two. Given that his suspension at the end of 2018 prevented him from winning the Asia Road Racing Championship in the SS600 class, he would have been the first Australian driver in history to do so. Despite having moved away from the paddock for some time, love for the track has still remained in the heart of West. In fact, a few weeks ago, AW13 is back on track for a particular track day riding a Yamaha R6 on the Lakeside track in Australia.

“An old sponsor brought me the bike so I could train. I have known that many people want to see me run again. So I accepted and in September I took this path. “

A gesture that sent fans of the old Australian lion into raptures on their social channels: “I hate life and find it disappointing when I wake up every day, except when riding the bike. Then understand why I continue to live ”. The fans are already wondering if West will do a new test, but it is not known yet. Even if his words give hope.

“I already have a first idea on how to file a second second at Lakeside.”
